Open Manifesto

HOOF - 2024

Wool now generates as little as 20-30 pence per kilo, which has lead to hundreds of thousands of tonnes of British wool being wasted.
Product design, material investigation and ethnographic research were used to re-introduce value to this natural fibre through a contemporary reapplication of the material.

Hoof Boots, made of reconstructed leather off cuts, wet felted wool, cork and crepe rubber soles.

An investigation into the reapplication of the material was informed by traditional British wool processing methods such as wet felting. The purpose of the project was to target wool burning by designing a new and circular wool processing system that is low cost and accessible.

Uplifting and advocating for British wool producers was at the centre of HOOF,  providing them with a connective, transparent and necessary  platform that promoted the wool’s market value.

Felted wool samples used in the early stages of the design process.

The brand was designed to combine contemporary elements of fashion, product and branding design with traditional fibre production.
